My First MLG-Style Match

So my community and specifically my branch established an aptly-named "Elite Squad" to do battle against other so-called "Elite Squads" from other equally talented and established communities.  We held tryouts with our higher-ups as judges stressing communication and strategy tinged with K/D and W/L.

Then they made me captain.

Our first unofficial scrimmage was today.  We were to play a match against another community called IGU (acronym unknown) and some of them resided in the UK, so we were prepared for connection problems and a little bit of lag.

But we established the rules beforehand, which are the rules that are established by the Gamebattles staff in order to minimize cheap play and maximize skill:

    •  Players must set their Death Streak to Hollow Point. Using any other Death Streak will result in a forfeit.
  • Breaking of these rules will result in a forfeit of the game/map.
(Full list of rules for Search and Destroy can be found here)

So the first match was underway: Search & Destroy on Resistance.  The first round went well, second round resulted in the game coming to a tie.  Then, in the third round, a member of the opposite team got the game-winning KillCam with akimbo FNGs.  This is against the official rules, and our spectator's agreed.  We told them that this was against the rules, to which they replied "Quit your bitching and play the game, because no one cares."

So continue playing we did, seeing Strikers and akimbo Skorpions, MP-9s, and FNGs from the opposite team.  Despite this, we ended up winning the Search & Destroy by a score of 4-3.

In the post-game lobby, we discussed the rules again.  There were to be absolutely no akimbos and no grenade launchers, the latter of which we hadn't seen.  The opposing team all backed into a party chat, which was, until recently, against the rules.  So we backed into ours, if only to avoid them from hearing our strategy and callouts with the options of the Turtle Beaches.

As a time of almost 15 minutes had passed, they finally started the game: core Kill Confirmed on Hardhat.  As usual, my team held the middle and made the necessary callouts.   It was strangely easy, considering they were quite good at Search & Destroy.  However, they made the ill-advised decision to run-and-gun with none other than akimbos and shotguns, while my team held it's ground with snipers and assault rifles.

We finished the game with a final score of 53-24, in favor of my team.  This made the final count at 2 wins for Chaos Gaming, 0 wins for IGU.

Then the fun began.

Back in the post-game lobby, we all exited our party chat with no intent of smacktalk.  However, as their whole team except for 2 members had rage-quit from the match, we were met with silence.  As the commander of our branch, who had been spectating, began to speak, we were all systematically kicked from the lobby by the leader of IGU.

We gathered in a lobby of our own to discuss the match.  It was no secret that the members of our branch who were to play against them in Halo Wars did not want to play against them after this fiasco.  As a result we sent the leader of IGU a message, explaining that due to their inconsiderate and deliberate disregard of the official rules they would take the loss in the Modern Warfare 3 competition and forfeit the Halo Wars match.  This was their reply:

"Your guys were bitching about us using akimbos, so you're the ones who started the trash talk.  We're going to take the win in Modern Warfare 3 and accept your forfeit of Halo Wars."

Not only did they break predetermined rules, they deliberately removed all Chaos Gaming members from the lobby and immaturely rationalized a reason to give their team a win.  Of course, none of it was official, so it was even more entertaining that they acted that way.

If all MLG-style matches are going to be like this, I won't mind.  Someone to talk trash against and literally beat into the ground while doing it my way.

I also learned that the leader of this so-called "mature" community was a 14 year old kid with anger issues.
